Romeo Oriogun, the Nigerian poet and author who won the 2017 Brunel International African Poetry Prize has narrated how his mother was ostracized after his father’s death because she refused to marry his late father’s cousin.
The poet disclosed that he and his other siblings were taken from their mother, an incident that left his mother always travelling from Ipetu-Ijesha in Osun State to see them in Benin for a year.
Romeo disclosed that his mother who his new book is dedicated to, died at the age of 43 while pregnant with the child of a man who promised her a house if she gave birth to a son for him.
