Court orders CBN to unfreeze #EndSARS protesters accounts

A federal high court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the bank accounts of 20 #EndSARS protesters.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed, gave the order after counsel to the CBN and the legal representative of the protesters agreed to end the case.

The CBN froze the bank accounts in the heat of the #EndSARS campaign last year.

CorrectNG reported in November 2020, that the apex bank had secured a court order to effect the freeze which elapsed last Tuesday.

According to court documents, CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele filed an ex-parte application to freeze the accounts on October 20, 2020 which was granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Federal High Court.

Michael Aondoakaa, former attorney-general argued the case for the freezing of the accounts on behalf of CBN, documents showed.

The bank accounts blocked included those run by Gatefield, a firm, and 19 individuals.
