The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has obtained a federal court order to freeze the bank accounts of 19 individuals and a public affairs company linked to the #EndSARS protests last month.
According to leaked documents, CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele filed an ex-parte court application to freeze the accounts on October 20, 2020 which was granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Federal High Court, TheCable and Peoples Gazette report.
Michael Aondoakaa, former attorney-general argued the case for the freezing of the accounts on behalf of CBN, documents showed.
The bank accounts blocked included those run by Gatefield, a firm, and Bassey Israel, a pharmacist.
Some Nigerians over the past few days, have been complaining that their bank accounts were frozen in relation to their roles in the #EndSARS protests, with CBN being mentioned as the main culprit of the punitive measure, a claim the apex bank has denied.
