Three Trains Crash In India, Over 230 Killed And 900 Injured

In a devastating train accident in Balasore, India, involving two passenger trains and a goods train, over 200 individuals lost their lives and hundreds sustained injuries.

The incident, considered one of the most severe train accidents in recent history, occurred in Odisha state.According to Pradeep Jena, the state’s chief secretary, the tragic crash resulted in a death toll of at least 233 people and left 900 others injured.

Rescue teams are conducting extensive operations, and the number of fatalities is expected to rise, as stated by Jena during a press conference.

Disturbing images from the scene showed rescuers diligently searching for survivors amidst the wreckage, with overturned coaches scattered along the tracks.

The rescue efforts have involved over 115 ambulances and multiple fire service units. Additionally, the authorities have collected approximately 500 units of blood overnight, with 900 units currently in stock to aid in treating the accident victims.

The exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined, according to Jena. The focus at this time remains on the ongoing rescue operations, with efforts directed towards providing additional medical personnel, ambulances, and buses to assist in the rescue and relief efforts.

Indian authorities have revealed that the tragic collision occurred when a passenger train crashed into coaches of another passenger train that had already derailed and shifted onto the opposite track. As a result, both trains veered off the tracks.
