The two women, who recently rented an apartment in the area, fled with their neighbor’s children—a five-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy.

The incident has caused confusion within the community, as the distressed parents of the children are currently making desperate efforts to locate the fleeing women and recover their children.

Unfortunately, as of the time of reporting on Thursday, their efforts have not yielded any positive outcome.

The trouble began when two-year-old Marwan started crying while his mother was praying.

One of the new tenants, identified as Godiya, offered to carry the little boy under the pretense of not wanting him to distract his mother during prayer. Subsequently, Godiya took both the boy and his older sister, Hauwa, claiming that she wanted to buy biscuits for the children. However, she never returned.

When the mother finished her prayers and patiently awaited the return of the tenant and her children, they were nowhere to be found. Distressed, the mother raised an alarm, prompting her neighbors to search the neighborhood. Regrettably, the children and their new neighbor could not be located.

To their shock, the mother and other concerned neighbors decided to break into the new tenants’ room, only to discover it was empty. This strongly implied that the two new tenants had planned the abduction, taken their few belongings, and absconded with the children.

Dauda Saliu, the father of the missing children, shared with journalists that the women had moved into a one-room apartment in the area approximately two weeks ago. Saliu expressed his discomfort with Godiya’s constant gift-giving to his children, but due to the demands of his job, which often took him away from home for most of the day, he was unable to intervene.

Saliu, visibly troubled, stated, “I was not at home when the incident happened. It occurred around 6pm yesterday (Wednesday). While their mother was praying and the youngest child was crying, one of the ladies took them with her under the pretense of buying biscuits. Other people in the community saw my children with one of them but did not suspect anything because she was always playing with them.”

He continued, “When it took too long and they did not return, my wife called out to the ladies and knocked on their door, but there was no response. She sought help from other neighbors who eventually broke into their room, only to discover that it was empty.”

Expressing his concerns about the situation, Saliu revealed, “I knew one of them would often buy biscuits and drinks for my children, and I was never comfortable with it. As a security guard, my job takes me away from home, and my warnings were not effective. This would not have happened if they had listened to me.”

Saliu also expressed regret that attempts to obtain the women’s details from the landlord had been unsuccessful. “When the incident occurred, we contacted the landlord to see if we could track them, but he does not have their details. He informed us that they had yet to complete the necessary forms. We are currently at the Bako Police Station to report the matter,” he added.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that she had not been briefed on the matter when contacted.
