Repentant mastermind of Kankara schoolboys abduction who took up arms again, killed by rival gang days after returning to the forest

Auwal Dauduwa, a notorious bandit leader who renounced his earlier repentance and returned to the forest, has been killed in a fight with rivals.

Daudawa is best known for being behind the abduction of over 300 schoolboys from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State.

According to Daily Trust, he was shot dead Friday evening during a gun duel with a rival gang at Dumburum forest located between Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara state and Batsari Local Government Area in Katsina State.

Recall that he and five of his lieutenants surrendered 20 AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher to the Zamfara state government on February 8 and denounced their affiliation to the bandits, promising never to go back to the crime.

Daily Trust had on Thursday reported how Daudawa returned to the forest and his old ways after he vacated his new abode in Damba, on the outskirts of Gusau.
