According to Al-Rabeeah, who is in charge of the surgical team, the reconstruction process has started, after the twins were split apart.

Al-Rabeeah told the Saudi state television network al-Ekhbariya:

“We still have a couple of hours left for the reconstruction process, but thanks God the decisive phase has passed,”

The twins, who were born in 2022, shared the same pelvis, liver, intestines, urinary and reproductive systems, and pelvic bone regions.

The procedure is being carried out at the King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital in Riyadh by a team of 35 doctors, nurses, and medical professionals, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

As of Thursday, there have been 56 operations in the Kingdom since 1990, according to al-Rabeeah. Thursday’s operation was the 56th case in that series.
