Adamu Garba reveals why he won’t sue CNN for revealing that Nigerian Army used live bullets on peaceful protesters at Lekki toll gate

A controversial chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adamu Garba has revealed the condition under which he would have sued international news outlet, CNN over its investigation into the shooting of protesters at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos.

Recall that CNN, earlier today, released the report of weeks of interviews, analysis and investigations into the shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters by men of the Nigerian Army at the Lekki toll gate on October 20.

Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the deployment of soldiers to the venue of the protest, although the Nigerian Army initially denied being at the toll gate, it later admitted its men were sent there but claimed that they only fired blank bullets into the air.

CNN debunked that claim with a series of verified footage from numerous sources including a satellite, and it released the testimonies of survivors from the shooting of that night as well as accounts from family members of victims.

Garba, a former presidential aspirant, speaking on the development, stated that he would not sue the Cable News Network because they did their job which entails investigation rather than conclusive reporting.

Citing the case of Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey lending his voice to the #EndSARS campaign, he added that if CNN had instigated or sponsored Nigerians against the federal government then he would have sued them.

He then urged people to wait for response from Nigerian authorities.

“I would have sued CNN if they instigated or sponsored people of Nigeria against its Govt. But one thing is clear. CNN is doing its job: Investigative & not “Conclusive” reporting.
