The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri, has been ordered to investigate Nollywood and Kannywood actress, Rahma Sadau over a revealing dress she wore and for not covering her hair in contravention of Islamic canons.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, gave the order following a petition written to him by one Mallam Lawal Gusau.
The actress had on Monday, November 2, posted the photo which caused a heated debate on social media and led to her being suspended by northern filmmakers.
The Arewa community and northern religious fanatics had criticised Sadau, stating that she is not honouring the doctrines of Islam.
Following the criticism, she subsequently deleted the picture and apologised to her fans in a video she shared on Instagram.
However, days after the drama, a letter signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, Idowu Owohunwa, confirmed the CP of Kaduna State was ordered to look into the matter.
The letter titled, ‘Complaint of Causing and Acknowledging Derogatory and Blasphemous Comments Against Prophet Muhammed On Rahma Sadau, Kaduna, Kaduna State and Request for Urgent Intervention’ , marked CR:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/Vol.508/313 is dated November 3, 2020.
The letter reads in part, “I am to convey the directive of the Inspector General of Police that you treat proactively with a view to ensuring that the development does not result in any act that could threaten public peace and security. The Inspector-General of Police further directs that you furnish him with updates accordingly.”
