”I never got an award from my country” – Nigerian farmer says after being awarded scholarship in US

A Nigerian farmer, Olalekan Ayodele Sipasi, has been awarded a scholarship in the United States of America just within 2 years of him studying in the country.

He took to his LinkedIn page to make this known while decrying how his country, Nigeria, never gave him any award as an undergraduate.

Olalekan studied for five years in a Nigerian University, then an additional two years to get his Master’s degree.

He then moved to US where he is now a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Kansas State University.

He announced on LinkedIn that just within 2 years of being in the United States, he was awarded the Robert Nunemacher Scholarship by Kansas State University College of Agriculture.

For his inputs that helped production agriculture, the young man got a scholarship of $5,000 (N2m) for 2021 and 2022.

Olalekan wrote; ”Never got an academic award in my country (Nigeria) from my undergraduate (5 years) and Masters (2years), this happened in less than 2 years of my PhD in the United States Of America.

On the 8th of September, I was awarded Robert Nunemacher Scholarship ($5,000) for 2021-22 by Kansas State University College of Agriculture. The Nunemacher scholarship is committed to an exceptional student in a research program that impacts production agriculture.”

”When I think about my research, I’m always grateful for the gift of my advisor (Dr. Cowan) whose continuous support has yielded/‘ing tremendous results. Sometimes, we work from 3:00AM to 12:30AM the following day, sometimes weekends, getting to the farm at 5:30AM …

‘Regardless of how challenging it is, keep at it, it shall be bountifully rewarded in due season’

Many thanks to all who have supported along the way, we are still in the process. As I plan the phase 2 of my research, I need help, volunteers are welcome.”
