Lionel Messi has been removed from Camp Nou billboards ahead of his proposed move to PSG.

Last week the unthinkable happened when it was announced Messi would be leaving Barcelona, after the club were unable to re-sign the 34-year-old following the end of his contract in June.

Messi then confirmed he was departing the Catalan giants after 21 years during an emotional press conference on Sunday.

The Argentine forward broke down in tears while receiving a standing ovation from those present, including the Barcelona squad.

On leaving the club, Messi said: “Honestly, when the elections happened (in March), I spoke with (club president Joan) Laporta, we had dinner and after that I was convinced I would be staying.

“My contract was never the issue… What I know is that I did everything I could. The club say it could not happen because of La Liga.

“I can guarantee you that I did everything I could to stay. Last year I didn’t want to and I said that, but this year it was different.

“I did everything possible and the club, Laporta, they couldn’t do it because of LaLiga,” Messi added

Now the club have begun to prepare for life without their superstar by removing him from the various Camp Nou billboards.

Messi is expected to join former Brazilian team-mate Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in Paris.

Sky Sports News have reported that Messi was back in Argentina after taking his private jet from Barcelona, via a detour in Ibiza.

However, according to The Guardian, Messi is on his way to Paris to finalise a move to the French giants.

Messi is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Parisian club, with an option to extend the deal by a further year.

The Argentine will reportedly earn a net salary of around €35million (£29.6m), including bonuses.
