19 armed robbers, kidnappers escape from police custody in Calabar

About 19 armed robbery and kidnap suspects, have reportedly escaped from police custody in Calabar, Cross River State.

According to Cross River Watch, the 19 alleged armed robbers and kidnappers were detained at police headquarters, Diamond Hill in Calabar the state capital, after being arrested.

The suspects escaped between Saturday night and Sunday morning after using a hacksaw to cut the key to the cell, Cross River watch reports.

The station guard on night duty and some other officers on duty were also reported to have been detained, but the the Cross River State Police Command spokesperson, Ms Irene Ugbo said the report is inaccurate.

Ugbo, said; “The information is not true. Only three robbers attempted to escape but were arrested and returned to the cell”.
